Join us for the 2018 MDL Regional Meetings

MDL is trying something new this year! Instead of our regular annual conference, we will be hosting three regional meetings in different parts of Minnesota this spring, and we want you to join us. The first meeting will be at the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on May 9th, followed by a May 16th meeting at the Douglas County Public Library in Alexandria, and concluding with a meeting at the Kathryn A. Martin Library at the University of Minnesota-Duluth on May 23rd.

Scan for Keeps program information now available on the web

Scan for Keeps program nformation is now available on the Minnesota Digital Library website under the Projects section. Scan for Keeps is a program developed for the purpose of loaning digitization kits for community scanning events. Kits are available for libraries, historical societies, and other organizations to encourage community engagement and foster preservation education.

Minnesota Reflections website update

The staff of the Minnesota Digital Library is pleased to announce the rollout of several important updates to the Minnesota Reflections website. The online interface now features faster searches, the ability to download high resolution images, and the ability to view images in full screen. There is also a new viewer for displaying and searching the full text of multiple page documents (such as books, programs, catalogs, etc.). 

New contribution to Minnesota Reflections: Saint Paul Public Library

The Minnesota Digital Library is excited to announce the addition of new materials to the Saint Paul Public Library collection in Minnesota Reflections. The Saint Paul Public Library has added eleven more volumes of the proceedings of the city of St. Paul's Common Council duirng the years 1867 - 1878. These books mark an important addition relating to the early history of St. Paul and Ramsey County. Each volume records Council business, correspondence, and new city resolutions. Minnesota Reflections now contains 18 volumnes of the Common Council Proceedings spanning the years 1859 - 1878.  

Updated Minnesota Reflections Metadata Guidelines

A new version of the Minnesota Reflections Metadata Guidelines in now available. Version 5.0 of the Guidelines contains a number of new features and enhancements, including a rework of the overall design, 6 new tables, and updated list of Physical Format terms, field name changes, and an updated Table of Contents.

MDL Staff at the 2017 Oral History Association Annual Meeting

The Oral History Association 2017 Annual Meeting brought together over 460 oral historians and those interested in oral history for three full days of informative sessions, plus workshops and site visits. I facilitated a panel entitled Seeing Immigrants: Using Video to Capture Community Narratives, featuring recent projects undertaken by Saengmany Ratsabout, Acting Director of the Immigration History Research Center (IHRC) and Scott Pollock, Director of Exhibitions, Collections, and Programs at the American Swedish Institute (ASI), engaging with immigrants in our community.
