Registration is now open for the free virtual workshop: Creating Inclusive Spaces Within the Libraries. This Tri-College University Libraries-hosted workshop is a follow-up to last year’s workshop “Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion: Strategies for Shifting Our Library Cultures”.

Description

The library environment presents endless opportunities for interrupting bias, shifting systems toward equity, and creating inclusive spaces that serve diverse communities. As a vital source of equitable access to information, programs, and resources, libraries have a unique potential to leverage a culture of innovation and confront intersections of classism, power dynamics, and structural issues that act as barriers to moving diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts forward. Building upon foundational learnings from previous workshops, this interactive workshop will explore ways that actionable allyship is practiced in the library environment, as well as practical next steps for encouraging agency and shared accountability for creating inclusive spaces.

Trainer Bios

Anne Phibbs is Founder and President of Strategic Diversity Initiatives and has extensive experience in training, teaching, curriculum development, and training of trainers, delivering workshops and classes to participants in corporate, government, higher education, nonprofit, healthcare, and faith community settings. Anne served as Director of Education in the Office for Equity and Diversity at the University of Minnesota, where she built a successful diversity and inclusion leadership program with a focus on emotional intelligence (EQ). Anne is an EQ Practitioner certified in the EQ-i2.0 and EQ360 method. Anne earned her PhD in Philosophy and Feminist Studies from the University of Minnesota.

Jody Gray (Lakota) is the Director of the Office for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Minnesota's College of Food Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences. She has 15 years of experience working in libraries, higher education, and non-profit organizations in the areas of equity, diversity, inclusion and leadership development. Jody began her career as the Diversity Outreach Librarian at the University of Minnesota Libraries. She then took on the role of Director of the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services at the American Library Association. She is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. She received her Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and her Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Minnesota, Morris.
