Quick Summary

Nick recaps the Public Library Node meeting held in August at the Hennepin County Brookdale Library.

Body

The annual Public Library Node meeting for frontline interlibrary loan (ILL) staff was held on August 15, 2018 at the Hennepin County Brookdale Library. The agenda focused on resource sharing issues and general library issues. MNLINK is primarily used in the public libraries for resource sharing, and the VDX software used by public library staff for ILL will be migrating to Relais D2D in the future.

At the node meeting this year, we featured a demonstration of Relais D2D via Webex with Debra Denault (OCLC Relais). Debra provided a broad overview of the Relais program and discussed their development roadmap, which will help determine the MNLINK timeline for migration. The Relais session was recorded, though due to technical difficulties, some of the recording was lost. Contact Nick Banitt (banit006@umn.edu) if you would like to see the recording of the demo.

Additional agenda items included Becky Ringwelski, who welcomed the attendees and an opening presentation from Valerie Horton, Minitex Director, talking about the Minnesota Libraries Publishing Project (MLPP). Leah Larson & Emily Kissane followed with a presentation about projects from the Minnesota State Library Services. Nick Banitt led an open discussion about a variety of issues concerning best practices and problems the interlibrary loan staff regularly face. Agnes Lee & Raquel Franklin provided some insight and reminders about billing issues. Carol Nelson reprised a presentation about the history of Minitex. Fred Finch gave an update about delivery issues.

I hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did.
