Meet a future Minnesota librarian: Haley Begordis

In every Minnesota community, there's a library. And in every library, you will find workers dedicated to the betterment of their neighbor's lives. That's why the most important resource in a library is not its books, but the people who work there. Soon, Haley Begordis, currently an MLIS student at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and Resource Sharing Assistant here at Minitex, will be one of them.

"Where We Come From" was chosen for the 13th iteration of Minnesota’s state-wide book club, One Book | One Minnesota. This title presents a picture-book collaboration in which four authors explore where they each come from, literally and metaphorically. Diane Wilson is an award-winning author and educator who explores, reflects, and celebrates Indigenous identity and community.

UMD librarian Kayleen Jones named Library Journal Mover & Shaker for collection work

University of Minnesota Duluth Education and Human Service Professions Librarian Kayleen Jones has been lauded as one of Library Journal's 2025 Movers & Shakers for her work collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to improve UMD's Children's Literature Collection. Jones' group emphasized books that better reflect the experiences of BIPOC students and provide positive representations for young readers. Previously, ARLD lauded Jones for this work with their 2024 Minnesota Academic Innovators Award.
