Hello! I’m the new Cataloging and Metadata Education Librarian on the Digital Initiatives and Metadata Education (DIME) team. I come from Minneapolis Community & Technical College, where I have been a Faculty Librarian for 13 years. I have taught credit-bearing courses in the Information Studies Department and the Library Information Technology Program. I’ve led our Technical Services team through new workflows, new hires, and a systems migration. At my former library, I wore many hats and had to be proficient in everything from acquisitions to cataloging, and reference to electronic resource management. Over the years, I’ve been active in the PALS Consortium as a convenor of many different workgroups and steering committees.

In my new role at Minitex, I will be reviving contract cataloging services and supporting the Minnesota Digital Library folks. Most of my time and energy will be spent on cataloging and metadata education. You should see me at library conferences and meetings across the region. I’m also going to reach out to library staff across the state to see what education and training needs are out there. Hopefully this means I can help meet those needs with webinars, symposiums, and other forms of educational experience. If you would like to help me understand your cataloging and metadata educational needs or interests, please feel free to reach out to me: ejbeck@umn.edu

I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life and enjoy camping, gardening, and vegetarian cooking. I love creating perennial gardens and have been slowly working to create a pollinator friendly yard. The picture accompanying this post is one of my shade gardens, which look awesome in early summer!
