Library Carpentry MarcEdit workshop

This hands-on workshop introduces MarcEdit, a suite of tools created and maintained by Terry Reese. MarcEdit software can create, manipulate, and transform library metadata in a variety of MARC formats and standards. This workshop is delivered over Zoom, but is not a passive experience. Participants will be using MarcEdit and learning how to work with data with an instructor.

There are no prerequisites to join the online workshop.  A basic knowledge of MARC records and interest in learning how to do more with data is all that you need. Workshops are available at no cost, but we request that you commit to attending both sessions if you would like to participate. Spots are limited to 30, and we would like to provide this opportunity to those who have the time and capacity to work through the full workshop. There will be a waitlist and if we have high demand, we will try to run this workshop again later this year. This workshop will take place over the following two days.

  • June 6, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM CDT/CST
  • June 7, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM CDT/CST

Library Carpentry workshops focus on building software and data skills within library and information-related communities. Our goal is to empower people in libraries to use software and data in their own work and to become advocates for and train others in efficient, effective and reproducible data and software practices. These are excellent learning opportunities for folks interested in tools and techniques for data cleaning, pattern matching, and data manipulation.
