The Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) is excited to announce the newest digital collection added to our website from the Adams Area Historical Society. The Adams Area Historical Society was incorporated with the State of Minnesota as a non-profit organization on September 5, 2017. The main purpose of the Society is to preserve and share the history of the town of Adams and its surrounding area in southeastern Minnesota.

One midcentury Adams resident, Nordeen Torgerson, was a home movie enthusiast. He made several films of local events, such as family reunions, weddings, farming practices, schools, churches, and neighborhoods. He also traveled beyond Adams to film parades and other scenes. One of his movies, titled “Our Great Lakes Cruise 1938,” features 15 minutes of color and black-and-white footage of shipboard activities, shore excursions, other boats and ships on the Great Lakes, lighthouses, locks and dams, waterfalls, and much more.

MDL digitized fifteen of Torgerson’s home movies for the Adams Area Historical Society. They are now available on our website for everyone to view.
