Quick Summary
This session will provide a brief overview of challenges and techniques when applying metadata to open educational resources (OER), before opening up for discussion. This conversation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m., and requires registration.

Ensuring Open Educational Resources (OER) are discoverable, shareable, and reusable depends on effective metadata practices. In addition to locating specific OER, discovery also includes the ability to filter effectively during the search process, which also relies on metadata. Publishing OER and submitting OER to referatories present two opportunities for libraries to optimize discoverability. However, without a standard schema or submission process, it's best to determine priorities, consider tradeoffs, and develop a strategic plan before work begins.
Libraries play a key role in making OER more accessible, yet challenges persist:
How can metadata improve the visibility and usability of OER?
What standards and best practices are out there for libraries to follow when applying metadata to OER?
How do different platforms and repositories handle OER metadata, and what gaps exist?
What are practical steps for libraries to support faculty in creating and describing their OER?
Please come prepared to share your experiences. These conversations are meant to foster learning, dialogue, and the exchange of ideas and strategies. You’re welcome to join at any point during the hour, though registration is required. Register here.
