Why is Ebooks Minnesota switching platforms?
Based on feedback from the Minnesota library community and the results of state-wide ebook platform trials, Minitex has selected MackinVIA as the new platform for Ebooks Minnesota. For more information about our selection process and criteria, please see this previous Minitex News article.
What will this mean for my library?
On July 1, the URL ebooksmn.org will automatically redirect to the new MackinVIA platform. However, any links you may have to individual titles or curations will need to be recreated within the new platform once they are available. We will have staff on hand to help you through this process and answer any questions you may have. We will also be providing new and improved MARC records for your catalog.
Will the Ebooks Minnesota collection remain the same?
Yes, titles available in the current platform will continue to be available in MackinVIA, although they may not all be immediately accessible. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to migrate over 11,000 titles.
What will change?
The new and improved Ebooks MN will look and feel a bit different, but as many of you who are already familiar with the MackinVIA platform know, MackinVIA is very user-friendly. The new platform will continue to offer barrier-free access to content via web reader, invisible authentication, and licensing that allows for unlimited and simultaneous access, but with improved search functionality and other features to make your browsing, searching, and reading experience even easier. Please be assured that we will be providing information and guidance for using the new platform.
