Job Summary
This position will maintain the Library’s virtual presence, including the day-to-day maintenance of the electronic resources and the Library website. This also includes serving as the technical contact for over 100 online databases and access services vendors, the maintenance of the e-journal and e-book collections, assistance in the development and maintenance of online tutorials, and management of the proxy server.
Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of library classification system(s) and standard library reference tools sufficient to assist clients in locating materials and conducting research.
- Ability to apply and support detailed coding or cataloging systems sufficient to create tracking for new print and non-print library acquisitions and locate and replace existing materials.
- Ability to operate personal computers, use various software and web-based applications, and other office equipment sufficient to locate catalog information, word-process documents, complete forms and prepare reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficient to determine and respond to the informational needs of clients of varied educational levels and backgrounds; to train, direct and evaluate work of student clerical staff; and to assist the professional library staff to maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience working in a library, preferably with a technical service focus.
- 2 years of college course work or a certificate in library information technology or equivalent program.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office, ie. Excel, sufficient to use formulas to manage data in spreadsheets. Word-process documents, complete forms and prepare reports.
- Experience managing electronic resources, including subscription databases, in a library.
- Experience with technical problem reporting or ticketing including compiling and annotating substantiating documentation (screenshots, spreadsheets, etc.).
- Experience with the staff side of an integrated library system or electronic resources management system (e.g. Alma, 360 Core, 360 Resource Manager).
- Experience working with or serving diverse populations.
- Experience training or assisting users in basic computer skills.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficient to report technical issues; to train, direct, and evaluate work of student clerical staff; and to assist the faculty librarians to maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures.
- Organizational skills, ability to keep statistics and records, a high degree of accuracy and ability to work with detail are required in this position.
- Excellent public relations and communication skills with a service orientation are essential
- A high level of initiative and ability to function autonomously.
- Experience with Standard HTML5 and CSS, web authoring software, and possess a level of computer literacy competency in current technologies appropriate to academic libraries; demonstrated ability to acquire new software skills relevant to webpage development or library systems
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot or problem solve technical issues.
