The Libraries at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University (CSB/SJU) invites applications for two full-time, benefit eligible positions of Access Services Associate.

The Access Services Associate position is a full time, 90% position responsible for managing the stacks and assisting with a range of duties including circulation, interlibrary loan and direct patron assistance with the use of library materials, services and equipment. This position supervises library student employees. It is a highly visible position, demanding interaction with faculty, students, staff and other members of the academic community and outside patrons. During the academic year this position will work Monday-Thursday 12:30–9 pm and Friday 10:30 am–6 pm. During the summer 20 hours per week between the hours of 8 am-4:30 pm, Monday-Friday.  

The CSB/SJU Libraries serve the combined student body with a joint staff and coordinated programs and services. The purpose of the libraries is to support the mission and vision of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University by connecting our communities to knowledge in order to enhance learning, teaching, scholarship, and creativity. The Access Services department consists of four support staff and approximately 60 student employees on two campuses all reporting to the Access Services Manager.

The College of Saint Benedict (CSB), a liberal arts college for women, and Saint John's University (SJU), a liberal arts college for men, are located in the central lakes area of Minnesota, surrounded by more than 3,000 acres of pristine forests, prairies, and lakes. The campuses are minutes away from St. Cloud, an increasingly diverse regional center with a population of over 100,000, and 70 miles from Minneapolis and St. Paul.  Some CSB/SJU staff choose to reside locally, while others commute from the Twin Cities. Responsibilities

  1. Provides administrative support for interlibrary loan, including hiring, training and supervising student employees; monitoring charges, notices and bills; and maintaining documentation and system updates. (25%)
  2. Hires, trains, schedules, and supervises the student employees responsible for re-shelving, stack maintenance, inventory and other projects in those areas. (20%)
  3. Management of media resources, including collections and loanable equipment. (20%)
  4. Supervision of all library student employees at all service desks during evening hours. (Clemens and BAC music library, Alcuin and Learning Commons media desk) Serves as backup supervisor during overlapping hours with other Access Services Associates. (15%)
  5. Provides backup assistance for research questions. Conducts research training for student employees. (10%)
  6. Provides assistance and information regarding library loans, facilities, events, services, policies and procedures to library patrons. Actively surveys the building and its patrons, observing issues of safety, maintenance, and security. (10%)

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree      

Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of library operations.
  • Experience with standard word processing and spreadsheet packages.
  • Familiarity with computerized information access and retrieval.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy in performing all job responsibilities.
  • Abilities:
  • Ability to work as a team member in accomplishing departmental goals.
  • Ability to direct and train student employees.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical requirements: lift book bins up to 30 lbs. on a regular basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with integrated library systems, as well as online catalogs and other automated systems used in libraries.
