The Norwegian-American Historical Association - new contributor to Minnesota Digital Library

The Norwegian-American Historical Association joins the Minnesota Digital Library as our 195th partner organization! The Historical Association shares photographs of Norwegians in Minnesota as well as images and a sourvenir booklet of the Norse-American Centennial parade that was held in New York City in 1925.

New contribution to Minnesota Reflections: Weavers Guild of Minnesota

The Minnesota Digital Library is pleased to announce an addition to the Weavers Guild of Minnesota collection. This addition includes new issues of The Threadbenders, a newsletter which was produced in the 1970s. Issues of The Minnesota Weaver are also included. Each issue provides information on classes, board meeting, and special events. 

New contributor to Minnesota Reflections: Cold Spring Area Historical Society

The Minnesota Digital Library is pleased to announce a new contributing organization: Cold Spring Area Historical Society. Cold Spring Area Historical Society has shared a ledger book which served as Ashley C. Riggs' journal from 1852-1873. The earliest entries are from Cold Spring, Minnesota (Stearns County) and Watab, Minnesota (Benton County).

DIME staff attend 2019 CONTENTdm User Group Meeting

Jolie Graybill, Sara Ring, and Greta Bahnemann traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana to attend the 2019 CONTENTdm User Group Meeting, where they had the opportunity to attend numerous sessions and updates regarding CONTENTdm. Craig MacDonald (School of Information at Pratt Institute) kicked things off with a keynote address on User Experience (UX), in which he introduced the concept of capacity-building and the steps needed to intitiate and susatain effective UX practices.

Second chance to attend a Rights Statements event with MDL!

We are hosting another of our training events for those who want to learn more about standardized rights statements and their implementation. It will be on Thursday, August 15th at the Kathryn A. Minitex introduction to digital preservation virtual course offered

While many of the traditional resources found in libraries, archives, museums, and other cultural heritage institutions--books, photographs, objects--can survive for years with no intervention, digital content is much more fragile. Managing it requires ongoing care and preservation activities to ensure continued access far into the future. This online training series--based on the Library of Congress Digital Preservation Outreach and Education (DPOE) Program curriculum--introduces fundamental concepts for managing your digital content over time through a series of six modules delivered in three sessions.

New Library of Congress crowdsourcing platform launches

The Library of Congress recently launched a new crowdsourcing platform, crowd.loc.gov. The platform will improve discovery and access to LC's digital collections, with help from volunteers. The most recent project, Letters to Lincoln Challenge, challenged volunteers to transcribe 28,000 digitized pages written by or to Abraham Lincoln by the end of 2018. Transcribing the handwritten letters makes the text machine readable and searchable to historians and other researchers.

Recap: Minitex Upper Midwest Digital Collections Conference

Over 130 people attended the 2018 Upper Midwest Digital Collections Conference on November 8-9 at St. Catherine University. The conference included 3 pre-conference workshops, a keynote by Abigail Potter from the Library of Congress Digital Labs, and 18 breakout sessions. The majority of attendees were from academic libraries and archives, but also from historical society and museum communities.
