Making digital collections more discoverable, Part 1: Wikimedia
In 2023, Minitex and three organizations conducted a small pilot to learn more about using the wiki-based, free-to-use media repository called Wikimedia Commons, along with its sister sites Wikidata and Wikipedia, to increase discoverability of content from digital collections. Soon after adding the very first test image to Wikimedia Commons, it appeared as the top Google Search result. If this sounds intriguing, read on for a brief overview of why we did the pilot and what we learned.

New MDL Contributor: Rondo Center of Diverse Expression
Explore a new digital collection in the Minnesota Digital Library from the Rondo Center of Diverse Expression. It includes photographs, stories, and programs commemorating the unique Rondo Avenue neighborhood in St. Paul, which was destroyed by the construction of Interstate 94 in 1964.

While many of the traditional resources found in libraries, archives, museums, and other cultural heritage organizations--books, photographs, objects--can survive for years with no intervention, digital content is much more fragile. Managing it requires ongoing care and preservation activities to ensure continued access far into the future. Wrapping up the 2022 MN+ Digital Collections Conference and MDL Annual Meeting
The 2022 MN+ Digital Collections Conference and Minnesota Digital Library Annual Meeting took place Monday, October 17 in person at the St. Paul Union Depot and virtually on Tuesday, October 18th. The conference featured two keynote speakers and 15 breakout sessions.

Keynotes announced for October 17-18 conference
We are pleased to announce the keynotes for the October 17-18 MN+ Digital Collections Conference and MDL Annual Meeting. Dr. Kirsten Delegard from the project Mapping Prejudice will open the program on October 17th (in-person day). John Garrison Marks from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) will keynote the virtual day of the conference on October 18th, discussing AASLH's new Reframing History initiative and toolkit. We hope you can join us for these exciting and informative presentations!
