Quick Summary
The fiscal year 2019 numbers are in for Resource Sharing. Get an overview in this article.
Our numbers are just one of many tools we use in the Minitex Resource Sharing unit to measure the service we provide to our patrons within the Minitex region. Statistics help us evaluate volume, speed of filling a request, availability, and also assist us in implementing practices to improve our efficiencies.
Our fiscal year runs from July to June and our numbers for fiscal year (FY) 2019 include the period July 2018 to June 2019. OCLC recognized Minitex (symbol MII) as the top lender for filled requests in WorldShare Interlibrary Loan again this year. We continue to maintain a low turnaround time of 0.6 days for items owned within the University of Minnesota, Twin-Cities libraries. Turnaround time is measured from when a request arrives at our office until we update it to shipped. In FY 2019, we received:
- 336,965 total requests (this total doesn't take into account requests in process)
- 248,954 loans
- 85,753 copies
70% of the requests were filled!
Where do these requests originate?
- 168,615 from Minnesota public libraries
- 71,337 from Minnesota state universities and community and technical colleges
- 47,202 from Private colleges
Most of the requests were filled from the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities collections and Hennepin County-Central library by Minitex staff. Some of our top referral lenders include Rochester Public library, St. Paul Public Library, and Minnesota State University-Mankato.
MNLINK libraries kept pace with last year by generating 537,751 borrowing requests within the system. Of this number, 410,893 were filled for a 76.4% fill rate. The top three MNLINK borrowers were Hennepin County, Dakota County, and SELCO. The top three lenders were Hennepin County, Great River Regional library system, and St. Paul Public Library.
Our Resource Sharing staff are grateful to all ILL frontline staffs that partner with us in making resource sharing work so well for patrons in our region.
