Minitex is hiring a part-time Library Assistant 2 for our Resource Sharing Services. This is an onsite position. The work hours are 2 PM-6 PM, Monday through Friday. The starting hourly rate is $17.13 + DOQ.

ABOUT THE JOB

Oversee the Daily Operation of Minitex Electronic Delivery Services (90%)

  • Schedule and oversee electronic delivery request scanning and request processing, including updating on appropriate ILL systems.
  • Develop and clarify MEDD/Article Exchange/ILLiad Electronic Delivery Utility procedures for Minitex staff, the staff of participating libraries, and MEDD end users. Maintain and update processing information on the Electronic Delivery Google Site.
  • Troubleshoot problems occurring with Electronic Delivery transmissions and receipts. Work with Minitex staff, patrons, and staff at participating libraries to ensure proper delivery and quality of articles. Resolve issues and report recurring problems to the supervisor.
  • Work with Minitex IT staff to ensure that equipment and software are operating properly. Contribute workflow suggestions that assist the programmer in developing Mira and MEDD software enhancements.
  • Maintain lists of Article Exchange and MEDD address books. Notify Resource Sharing staff daily when electronic delivery sites are temporarily down or have addresses changes.
  • Train permanent and student staff to screen and transmit requests via Article Exchange and MEDD.
  • Monitor and maintain the scanning workstations and copier/scanner in the Minitex office, initiate service calls when necessary.
  • Collect data and statistics for Electronic Delivery services and provide statistical information to appropriate staff members.
  • Handle special requests, including contacting staff at campus locations when necessary to meet customer deadlines.
  • Search MnCAT, OCLC, or other appropriate bibliographic tools to verify requests, identify holding locations, and maintain workflow standards. 
  • Hire and train students to process electronic delivery of items, to copy material retrieved for scanning, and to fulfill Minitex and DTU Interlibrary Loan requests. Assign daily work to students and monitor work to ensure it meets workflow standards.

Enhance the overall effectiveness of Resource Sharing and Minitex services (10%)

  • Participate actively and positively in meetings that involve the Resource Sharing staff or the entire Minitex staff.
  • Establish & maintain positive relationships with co-workers in Resource Sharing, University Library staff, Minitex staff, and Minitex participants.
  • Attend workshops and conferences as appropriate, share information learned with other Minitex staff using appropriate communication methods.
  • Work closely with supervisor and co-workers in Resource Sharing to ensure high level of efficiency and quality of processes. Assist other Library Assistants when appropriate.
  • Work with various groups and task teams that focus on office-wide or organizational concerns, as appropriate.
  • Complete all absences and time reporting on MyU by payroll deadlines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of college coursework and/or relevant library experience. Must be able to lift and manipulate library materials. Requires the ability to use computers and various types of computer software and web applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates, who can demonstrate experience providing good customer service, adapting to procedural changes, working with detail while maintaining high productivity and accuracy.  Previous library experience and lead worker or supervisory experience is preferred.

ABOUT MINITEX

Minitex is a publicly supported network of libraries working cooperatively to improve library service.  Resource Sharing is a service in which Minitex participants transmit loan and photocopy requests to the central office.  The Minitex staff locates and retrieves needed materials and sends them to the requesting library.
