Minitex has recently started hosting a new series called AI Knowledge Bytes: Artificial Intelligence in Libraries Lunch ‘n Learn. The purpose of this series is to learn and explore the tangible applications and implementations of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across all types of libraries in the Minitex region.

Our first session, “Promise and Perils of Generative AI: What You Need to Know,” featured Dr. Laura Allen, faculty in the Educational Psychology department at the University of Minnesota who researches natural language processing and computational linguistics. During this session, Laura introduced Generative AI in simple terms, highlighting its capabilities and some of the ethical considerations it entails. She provided perspective on how this technology can be harnessed for good in education and libraries, while also addressing the risks and challenges it presents.

For those who missed the live event, the recording is now available on the Minitex YouTube channel. Check it out before our next session in the AI Knowledge Bytes: Artificial Intelligence in Libraries Lunch ‘n Learn Series: "AI Research Tools Petting Zoo" with Mozhdeh Khodarahmi, registration is still open!
