Body

The Weavers Guild of Minnesota (WGM) is a respected Minnesota organization with an 80-year history of fostering and promoting fiber arts with emphasis on weaving, spinning, and dyeing. WGM has a collection of material related to the Guild from its founding to the present day, including newsletters that were written, illustrated, edited, and published by its members.

In previous years, the Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) digitized and uploaded the first 30 years of WGM newsletters from 1968 to 1999. We recently added hundreds of newsletter issues from 2000 to 2022 that profile the growth of this nonprofit arts education organization in the 21st century. View the entire WGM digital collection in MDL today.

These newsletters report on Guild activities such as classes, workshops, and other educational and outreach activities. They include articles detailing fiber-related techniques and practices that have been refined by WGM members over the years. These issues also appeal to a wide variety of local, national, and international audiences. WGM argues that “the value of these materials extends beyond Minnesota to anyone with an interest in weaving, spinning, or dyeing who visits the Minnesota Digital Library site.”

MDL is now accepting applications for new digitization projects like this one. We encourage potential contributors to think expansively about what is “historic” and consider sharing more recent materials as well as older ones, just like WGM has done. Read our Call for Projects for more information.
