MDL staff traveled to Pipestone, MN to host the second of two regional meetings. They also visited a number of county historical societies in the region.
On Monday, September 18th, Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) staff members Greta Bahnemann, Stephanie Hess, and Molly Huber, again joined by Minitex Director Maggie Snow, hosted the second of two regional meetings, this time in Pipestone, for MDL contributors and similar organizations. As with our Roseau regional meeting in August, the program consisted of updates on recent MDL projects and initiatives, a brief overview of how to apply standardized rights statements to digital collections, and a real-time, hands-on workshop on how to create digital story maps. The engaged and attentive crowd of over 20 people from Minnesota and South Dakota also had opportunities to connect with each other over lunch and as they walked the beautiful grounds of Hiawatha Pageant Park during breaks. The Pipestone County Museum graciously opened their doors to us for a visit after the meeting.
On Tuesday, September 19th, Greta, Stephanie, and me all had the opportunity to visit a number of other county historical societies on our way back to the Twin Cities. We stopped in Rock, Nobles, Jackson, and Martin counties to meet the historical society staff and volunteers, and see their facilities and collections. Everyone had unique treasures to share, and we all very much appreciated the chance to see them all in person. Thank you to everyone we met with for being so welcoming and generous with your time.
