Greta Bahnemann (Minitex) and Jason Roy (University of Minnesota Libraries) are two of the authors of the new OCLC Research report on the CONTENTdm Linked Data Pilot project’s findings. The report, Transforming Metadata into Linked Data to Improve Digital Collection Discoverability: A CONTENTdm Pilot Project, outlines “the benefits of working in a linked data environment, the potential to develop a shared data model, and the challenges facing efforts to transform metadata into linked data.” In the pilot project, OCLC partnered with five institutions, including the University Libraries/Minitex through the Minnesota Digital Library. Each of the partner institutions manages their digital collections with OCLC’s CONTENTdm service.  In the pilot project, the partners investigated "methods for—and the feasibility of—transforming metadata into linked data to improve the discoverability and management of digitized cultural materials and their descriptions."

Bahnemann and Roy conclude in the report: "The Minnesota Digital Library was excited to be a part of this pilot project. In addition to learning more about the practical application of Wikidata, it was a great opportunity to get to know staff at OCLC and speak about the potential future of CONTENTdm in a collaborative environment."

Greta Bahnemann will co-present on this work with Jeff Mixter (OCLC) at the Visual Resources Association conference in March
