The 16th Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) Annual Meeting took place at the lovely Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota on June 4. This year's meeting featured keynote speaker John Bracken, DPLA Executive Director, who discussed curent and future DPLA initiatives. Greta Bahnemann (Metadata Librarian) and Molly Huber, (Outreach Coordinator), presented an MDL Update that included a summary of efforts to increase visibility of Minnesota's cultural heritage collections, Minnesota Reflections metadata changes, and details about the MDL rights statements implementation. The morning wrapped up with Kevin Taggart from OCLC, who presented on meeting the challenges of a digital frontier. He touched on 3 initiatives at OCLC: open content, community engagement, and IIIF, which is a community of organizations committed to providing high quality image resources.
The afternoon included breakout session topics on Collection Management software, digital preservation (2 sessions), digitizing sound and moving images, community assessment, and using digitized collections in museums. As is tradition, the day wrapped up with an ice cream social to discuss what we learned over the course of the day and to connect with colleagues.
