Learn at the Library: Drawing!

Before coming to work at the library, my passion was drawing. Growing up, I would find myself drawing during my free time. I would draw anything I found visually interesting. Dinosaurs and dragons, for example. After I got good at drawing those kinds of characters, I moved on to my favorite animated characters and, eventually, real-life objects such as plants, animals, and people. As summer enlightens my creativity, my journey toward becoming one of my generation’s most important (and misunderstood?) artists has been invigorated. I’m using resources I found on Ebooks Minnesota to help me on my way. 

Ebooks Minnesota has many resources to help you learn how to draw, paint, and be creative. Two books, in particular, are helping me reinforce some basic skills and set a foundation for my creativity: “How to draw griffins, unicorns, and other mythical beasts,” and “Dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures you can draw.” I have always enjoyed drawing dinosaurs and mythical creatures, so these are the right books for me. But other drawing books are also available if you prefer to draw less fantastical things like pets and cars. Even if you are a beginner, you should give these books a shot!

I decided to draw a phoenix and a T-Rex, and I think they turned out pretty well! Take a look at the image above and decide for yourself. These books provide step-by-step guides and tips on making your drawings unique. Each tutorial calls upon different skills to reach the end goal, so you can develop various techniques to use in your future projects. I took some of the skills I learned and used them to draw my dog, Guardian (also pictured above).
