When a vendor hands you an electronic resources agreement, do you blithely sign the license without reading it, relying on the vendor's assurances that all oral promises are included? Or, if you do slog through the multiple pages of fine print, do you know what you are reading? What are the implications for interlibrary loan, patron usage, reserves, coursepacks, or long-term access? The presenter, CLIC Executive Director Ruth Dukelow, is an attorney and a librarian with many years of experience reviewing electronic resources licenses for libraries. In this session, she will cover the major provisions and pitfalls to look for when negotiating an electronic resources license.
Presenter:
Ruth Dukelow is the executive director of Cooperating Libraries in Consortium, better known as CLIC. CLIC is a consortium of seven private college and university libraries in St. Paul and Minneapolis. Ruth is both an attorney and a librarian, with experience reviewing electronic licenses for libraries and working with library copyright issues.
