Quick Summary
A similar message went out to Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) contacts in Minnesota on Monday, August 4th. Minitex is discontinuing the MDL WorldCat Harvesting project. More details below.
Since 2008, the Minnesota Digital Library (MDL) has harvested records from MDL, converted them to another format, and added them to OCLC WorldCat, a global catalog of library materials.
The project was put on hold after MDL moved to a new discovery platform at mndigital.org. After the move, the URLs that led users from WorldCat records to MDL records no longer worked.
We evaluated our options to resolve this issue and determined that the amount of effort, time, and resources it would take to update these records in WorldCat and continue to maintain the project is not practical. Therefore, we are discontinuing it, and we plan to delete the MDL records in WorldCat after August 15, 2025.
MDL records will remain discoverable through mndigital.org and MNLINK, as well as appearing in internet search engine results if users start their search on the web.
For any questions, please contact Sara Ring by Friday, August 15th.
