Body

Congratulations on qualifying for the first-ever Minitex Games! Your years of service at the library is paying off. From putting smiles on the faces of your patrons to building up your community, you have compiled quite a resume.

Taking inspiration from this year’s Olympics, we are hosting a series of challenges in which you can compete. You will have two weeks to submit your results. The deadline is Friday, August 2. Whether you're a rookie with potential or a seasoned veteran, this is your chance to make your mark!***

Challenges and rules

  1. Competitive Book Shelving
    • Break your book-shelving personal record (PR) or set an all-time record!
      • Begin with twenty books on your cart.
      • Stop the timer when your last book is shelved. Time yourself individually or get a colleague to help!
      • Make as many attempts as you wish, but submit your time before the deadline.
  2. Dynamic patron-helping
    • Each patron requires different kinds of help. Showcase your adaptability and resourcefulness by helping as many patrons as possible.
      • Help as many patrons as possible in any way, over the next two weeks.
      • Submit your number of patrons helped before the deadline.
  3. Aggressive library card sign-ups
    • Let’s get those numbers up! Sign as many new patrons up for a library card as you can in two weeks. Renewals count!
  4. Bonus for the truly bold: Best character dress-up
    • Great excuse to dress up or test-run your potential Halloween costume.
    • Share your photos to be featured in the Minitex Games closing ceremony.

Guidelines and additional considerations

  • Compete individually or as a group at your library.
  • Share your results with us to compete with library staff.
  • Medalists will be announced in a future edition of the Minitex Messenger.
  • Share photos of your participation or with your colleagues (whether they participated or not) to maldo126@umn.edu. Be sure to include the name of your library.
  • Have fun!

***Library staff make the world a better place by doing these things all the time, even when the Olympics aren't taking place.
