Quick Summary

For the first time since 2019, Minitex staff held its Mini-golf Food Drive event on November 30th - and it was a blast! Staff spent the afternoon playing mini-golf and donating shelf stable food. This year, we decided to donate all proceeds from the food drive to student workers at University of Minnesota Libraries on the Twin Cities campus. Many of our libraries have food pantries for our student workers, and with the holidays and winter break soon upon us, this felt like the perfect choice.

For the first time since 2019, Minitex held its staff Mini(tex) golf Food Drive event on November 30th - and it was a blast! This year all proceeds from the food drive are going to student workers at University of Minnesota Libraries on the Twin Cities campus. Many of our libraries have food pantries for our  student workers, and with the holidays and winter break soon upon us, this felt like the perfect choice.

Both of the mini-golf courses created by our two teams were partially constructed using some of the food donations, but each had a unique theme. One was the Technology Graveyard, a winding course that repurposed old or defunct technology. The other was Candyland, assembled with some very cute, handmade Candyland-themed decorations. Minitex staff voted for their favorite, and the winner was Technology Graveyard!

Staff across the University of Minnesota Libraries were very generous with donations to the food drive this year. By the end of the event, we received 125 items of food. At least a quarter of those items were multi-packs as well - that’s a lot of food! In addition to food donations, we received $200 in cash donations. Our student staff have worked very hard, especially considering the challenges that COVID has posed for us. We want to support our student staff and help ensure that they have some food stability. This is just one way we can thank them for all their work, and we hope they’ll take advantage of these resources.

Thank you very much to everyone who donated, created golf courses, and participated in the event!
