The University of Minnesota Libraries - Twin Cities is hiring its inaugural Director for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility. Reporting to the University Librarian and Dean, the Director is responsible for leading and facilitating inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility initiatives for the University Libraries.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in Library-wide initiatives to examine current practices and strengthen policies that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, and provide guidance to individual Library departments.
  • Represent the Library in meetings, committees, and other project work undertaken by diversity and organizational development officers across campus under the leadership of the University’s Office for Equity and Diversity.
  • Chair the Library’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Library Committee (DEILC) and the Libraries Accessibility Steering Committee [LASC], providing expert knowledge and guidance for efforts to improve climate and accountability.
  • Direct the Library’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan. Working closely with senior leadership, and in coordination with Human Resources and the DEILC, provide leadership for internal goal-setting/accountability/data collection.
  • As a member of the Libraries’ senior leadership team, participate in strategic planning, budget planning, and other high-level Library decision-making processes.
  • Work with Library Human Resources, Cabinet, DEILC, LASC, and others to identify training needs and opportunities for Library staff.
  • Promote and advise on strategies for Library accessibility (physical, digital, and educational) in a collaboration with LASC and campus offices overseeing accessibility.
  • Work with Libraries Human Resources to identify and develop best practices in the areas of diversity employee and student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Establish practices and metrics for evaluating progress on IDEA goals and initiatives in collaboration with Cabinet and the Assessment Librarian.
  • Assess ongoing activities in the areas of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility, recommend and implement changes to current activities and prioritize new initiatives.
  • Represent the Libraries in professional organizational meetings and the community.
  • In coordination with Cabinet and the Libraries Leadership Council, provide leadership in the development of Libraries-wide strategic planning efforts.
  • Support Library policies and directives that mitigate bias, increase equitable outcomes and foster respect and inclusion across all job classifications and organizational levels.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is a full-time, 12-month, annual renewable administrative appointment.  Salary commensurate with skills and experience.  The salary minimum for this position is $95,000.  The University of Minnesota offers excellent benefits, and a substantial moving allowance.  Any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree and six years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion with experience working respectfully and effectively with individuals from racially and culturally diverse populations.
  • Experience developing and presenting effective training materials using a variety of media.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather data, analyze information and prepare reports

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education setting preferred, and a Master's degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of HR disciplines, including workforce planning, recruiting and onboarding.
  • Effective coaching techniques.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced communication skills to communicate effectively to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
