As many across the country find renewed motivation to engage in civic and political discourse and action, the American Library Association has recently reiterated several points of principle for the profession as a whole.

The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom condemned government censorship in a strongly worded and specific statement. LITA announced a set of checklists to support libraries in ensuring patron privacy. ACRL affirmed support for diversity, inclusion, and access.

The voices of many from across our varied profession join ALA President Julie Todaro when she writes: “We are shocked and dismayed by recent executive orders and other actions by the new administration, which stand in stark contrast to the core values of the American Library Association (ALA).”
