Body

The theme of this year's Lake Superior Libraries Symposium was Sea Changes in Libraries, with a keynote address by John Pateman on Blue Ocean Strategy. Pateman took the audience through the steps of the established Blue Ocean Shift popular in the private sector. For each piece of the strategy, he discussed how Thunder Bay Public Library approached and implemented their version. He shared a few tables and graphs showing TBPL's analysis and plans for the future, and overall the impression was that this is not a huge scary undertaking but something that can be done at any institution.

Other sessions focused on all sorts of topics, including Open Access, dementia-friendly libraries, instructional design, subject librarian/cataloger partnerships, and more. Minitex's Lizzy Baus co-presented a session with Mollie Stanford (Arrowhead Library System), Katie Sundstrom (Two Harbors Public Library), and Heidi Schutt (Muir Library in Winnebago), showing four different perspectives on Minnesota Digital Library's Scan for Keeps program.

Overall, the sessions were engaging and interesting, Lake Superior College was a great host, and it was a beautiful day on the lake!
