Grand Marais Public Library is hiring an Assistant Library Director.

The Grand Marais Public Library is the only 5 Star Library in Minnesota and retains that status annually due to the high level of usage by the public.

Salary: $22.19 with increase to $24.65 in 12 months.

Status & Hours: Regular, full-time

DESCRIPTION

Assists the Library Director in maintaining the daily operation of the library and operates the library independently in the Director’s absence. Activities may include: policy formulation and implementation, managing staff and library functions, coordinate and present programs, cultivate outreach partnerships and meet with community groups, provide reference service, classify and catalog library materials, manage the library web presence, manage and maintain library equipment and technology, troubleshoot technology problems, and provide services to patrons as necessary.

Candidates should demonstrate: Knowledge of library materials, classification systems, policies and procedures, knowledge and ability to use reference materials including online resources, knowledge of and ability to use technology and perform troubleshooting, knowledge of library services for children and adults, ability to train and supervise staff and volunteers, ability to plan and organize workload, ability to cheerfully and tactfully deal with a wide variety of people, ability to maintain customer confidentiality, and familiarity with library professional publications.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, one year experience working in a library setting, one year experience in a supervisory capacity, knowledge of budgets, ability to learn a variety of computer software products, familiarity with using and navigating the Internet.

Desirable qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited MLS program.
