We know that there were several screenings scheduled for this spring which had to be cancelled, so we hope that you are able to join this live virtual event. The documentary portion of the event will not be recorded, but the Q&A portion will be. While there is no charge, capacity is limited for this event, so register now!
Change the Subject shares the story of a group of college students, who from their first days at Dartmouth College, were committed to advancing and promoting the rights and dignity of undocumented peoples. In partnership with staff at Dartmouth, these students – now alumni – produced a film to capture their singular effort at confronting an instance of anti-immigrant sentiment in their library catalog. Their advocacy took them all the way from Baker-Berry Library to the halls of Congress, showing how an instance of campus activism entered the national spotlight, and how a cataloging term became a flashpoint in the immigration debate on Capitol Hill
Tina Gross is the Metadata and Cataloging Librarian at North Dakota State University. She received her MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998, and is currently working on an MFA in creative writing at Minnesota State University, Mankato. She recently served as chair of the CaMMS Subject Analysis Committee Working Group on the LCSH “Illegal aliens” and is a contributor to the forthcoming book Borders and Belonging: Critical Examinations of Library Approaches Toward Immigrants.
