MNLINK Users Group Charge

Background

MNLINK is a statewide system that serves as a discovery and interlibrary loan interface for library patrons and staff. Through our participating libraries, patrons have easy access to the catalogs of most libraries in Minnesota. Patrons can request interlibrary loan items directly through MNLINK, and materials are delivered to their home library with Minitex delivery.

Purpose

The Users Group provides input on system policies, procedures, and enhancements to improve interlibrary loan services. It also fosters communication and collaboration among participating libraries to ensure efficient and effective resource sharing.

Administration

Minitex provides administrative support for the MNLINK Users Group, including preparing agendas, scheduling meetings, managing the group's list-serv, and reporting out to the MNLINK Operations Committee.

Responsibilities

  • Provide feedback and recommendations on interlibrary loan policies, workflows, and best practices.
  • Discuss system developments, challenges, and opportunities for service improvements.
  • Facilitate professional development by sharing knowledge, strategies, and resources.

Membership

Membership is open to library staff at MNLINK libraries actively engaged in interlibrary loan. Staff members who are involved in MNLINK in other ways, such as IT, systems administration, and public services are welcome to attend when topics are of interest.

Communications

Communication occurs primarily through the MNLINK Users Group list-serv.

Reports to

The MNLINK Users Group provides information, reports, and recommendations to the MNLINK Operations Committee.

Voting

This group is not a decision-making body, but is tasked with providing guidance to Minitex staff and to the MNLINK Operations Committee. The group will aim for consensus in their recommendations, but if consensus cannot be reached, and a recommendation is necessary, the group will conduct a vote. Each institution will have one vote.

Schedule of Meetings

The Group meets quarterly (four times per year), with additional meetings scheduled as needed. While most meetings will be held virtually, select meetings may be held in person, as determined by the group.
