Building Facts: The Magrath Library was built in 1953 and named the St. Paul Campus Central Library. An additional wing was added in January 1980. The library is located on the beautiful and pastoral St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota. In 1998, the name was changed to Magrath Library to honor Dr. C. Peter Magrath who served as University President from 1974-1984. The address for Magrath library is 1984 Buford Avenue, St. Paul, MN, 55108.

Collections: Magrath Library is the main library at the St. Paul Campus. It serves many colleges and departments, including the College of Food, Agricultural & Natural Resource Sciences; the College of Biological Sciences; the College of Education & Human Development; the College of Design; the University of Minnesota Extension; and the College of Continuing Education. The collection contains approximately 400,000 volumes. Housed within this collection is the 3,300 item “Doris S. Kirschner Cookbook Collection," which includes cookbooks, pamphlets, and recipes ranging from 1890-present. The Kirschner items are non-circulating; however, the collection is open to the public and the University community when the library is open. 

Minitex Services: The Minitex Resource Sharing Unit accesses the St. Paul Campus out of its Magrath Library office. From this office, staff retrieve and process materials from Magrath Library, the Veterinary Medical Library, and the Natural Resources Library. The office is equipped to deliver items to patrons within 24 hours. In the last fiscal year, over 5,500 requests were processed by this office.
