Body

In October, the Electronic Delivery area of Resource Sharing processed a record number of requests - 9,441 - which averages out to 429 requests each work day. Many of the articles, if not the majority, are delivered to patrons within hours of the request being printed in our office. Of course, no day is actually average, and on some of our busier days (usually the beginning of the week) we process 100's more requests than we do on slower days. You can imagine the challenge of planning for staffing when the numbers vary so much.

Other factors that really impact volume in the electronic delivery area include ILL-friendly changes in the licensing terms of the University Libraries electronic serial collections, some amazing technology improvements by our own IT staff, and game-changing macros that Kyle Triska and Sarah Anderson have developed that dramatically speed routine processes. Credit for how smoothly this all works goes to the staff - Kyle Triska, Lani Manion, and Bob Fredrickson. Each one of them ensures that items are handled efficiently with the assistance of well-trained student staff. Their teamwork and dedication produce the excellent electronic delivery service our patrons have come to expect.
