Cataloging Foundations 1: Copy Cataloging for Beginners
This Minitex Short Course: Cataloging Foundations 1: Copy Cataloging for Beginners is designed to take 4-6 weeks with readings, recorded videos, and quizzes. Students will focus on applying the MARC 21 encoding standard and RDA metadata standard to copy cataloging. This course will focus on foundational principles, the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Records, access points for names and subjects, and elements of description in bibliographic records.

Cataloging Foundations 2: Introduction to Cataloging
This Minitex Short Course: “Cataloging Foundations 2: Introduction to Library Cataloging” is designed for self-paced learning divided into four modules with readings, webinars, and quizzes. The course should take 4-6 weeks to complete. Students will be introduced to several important metadata and encoding standards used in library cataloging, focusing on applying MARC21 and Original RDA for copy cataloging. The course wraps up by focusing on the context of cataloging with respect to changes in technology and standards.
This course is designed for people with little or no experience in library cataloging. It is recommended that students complete the Minitex Copy Cataloging Foundations 1: Cataloging for Beginners course before taking this course as it provides a solid foundation in MARC 21, authority control, and copy-cataloging. Students will leave this course with a better understanding of library cataloging and practical skills in copy cataloging.
