Quick Summary
Are you a Minnesota cataloger, technical services professional, or someone who finds themselves occasionally working with MARC records at your library? Whether you are a library worker in a rural or urban community, consider joining us at our first Zoom meeting on May 5, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm.
What is the North Star Cataloging Network?
The North Star Cataloging Network is a new interest group intended to connect library staff across Minnesota. National forums sometimes feel intimidating, and this is an opportunity to become part of a local, intentional, and supportive space where we can get to know each other better, share our knowledge, and our challenges.
Our first meeting will be informal. No breakout rooms, no high-pressure presentations—just a chance to meet your colleagues and help us shape what this group could become.
If you work with MARC records or care about library resource discoverability, you belong here!
Registration
Please RSVP via this Google Form, so we can send you the login information. The full agenda will be shared in advance of the meeting.
To protect the privacy of those sharing personal experiences and challenges, this first meeting will not be recorded.
About The Group
The desire and need for catalogers to connect with one another across library types in Minnesota grew out of discussions before and after the Minitex Technical Services Symposium in 2025, and at the 2025 Minnesota Library Association Technical Services Section business meeting. The North Star Cataloging Steering Committee includes:
- Lizzy Baus, Macalester College
- Bobby Bothmann, Minnesota State University, Mankato
- Kate Eidem, Dakota County Library
- Seth Erickson, Traverse des Sioux Library System
- Jean Kramer, Minnesota State University Moorhead
- Dani Kroon, PALS
- Claire McGinty, Martin County Library (Co-Chair)
- Keri Ostby, Rochester Public Library
- Sara Ring, Minitex (Co-Chair)
This group is also open to cataloging library staff outside of Minnesota, but will focus on some Minnesota-specific issues.
Contact Claire McGinty (cmcginty@tds.lib.mn.us) or Sara Ring (ring0089@umn.edu) with any questions.
