Carleton College is happy to announce that our annual Day of Digital Humanities event will be held on May 31, 2024. Day of DH @ Carleton is a FREE, one-day conference sponsored by the Humanities Center, Gould Library, and Information Technology Systems at Carleton. We are thrilled to be holding the event in person again this year, although some parts of the day will continue to be live-streamed for remote audiences.
If you are interested in presenting this year, we have two options:
- Lightning round presentations (5 minutes) on digital projects followed by a digital demonstration Q&A session
- Hands-on workshops (90 minutes) devoted to specific aspects of DH pedagogy and practice
We invite members of the community at any institution or career stage to submit a proposal for a presentation of a digital project or workshop by April 15th. The registration form for non-presenter attendees will come out later in the spring.
The Keynote address this year will be given by Dr. Katherine Elkins, Professor of Comparative Literature and Humanities at Kenyon College, Director of the Integrated Program in Humane Studies and co-director of their KDH Collaboratory. The keynote, titled “Human-Centered AI: High-Impact Change from the Classroom to the Lab,” will address Dr. Elkins’ long history of thinking through the impacts of AI on higher education, including her work with students to leverage the latest AI models to answer some of our most pressing questions. Her current research focuses on AI fairness and safety, and the KDH Lab was recently invited to join the US AI Safety Institute to conduct AI research and inform public policy.
