Body

National History Day is a program that builds opportunities for students to research historical topics around a particular theme. Each year a new theme is chosen that applies to world, national, or state and local history. The 2022-2023 theme is “Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas.”

The Minnesota Digital Library has created a resource guide for creating History Day projects on our website, and we recently added a new page exploring this year’s theme. The theme encourages students to investigate historical events and the ideas, people, and locations that played a role in the creation of frontiers. Minnesota is home to a variety of frontiers that fit this theme, and we have included lists of suggested topics using materials from our digital collections.

We encourage teachers and their students to consider doing a Minnesota-based project this year and hope this new resource guide provides some inspiration.
