Body

We are always excited to announce the addition of new contributors to Minnesota Reflections. Today we welcome a series of historic postcards from the Ely-Winton Historical Society. These postcards capture historic events and people in and around Ely and Winton in far northern St. Louis County. The addition of these materials from Minnesota's Arrowhead country helps fill in a gap in Minnesota Reflections. We are thrilled that we can now better tell the story of life in far northeastern Minnesota.

The Ely-Winton Historical Society is located within the Vermilion Community College in Ely, Minnesota. It has been in operation since 1962 and moved to a museum especially designed for them in 1982. The purpose of the Society is to collect and preserve items from the history of the region. The museum's main exhibit walks visitors through the history of the area beginning with the prehistoric peoples who populated places along lakes and rivers. Also included in the exhibit are areas devoted to: Native American beadwork and basketry, Logging, Iron Mining, Immigration, Medicine, and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
