Body

On Tuesday, August 17th from 10:00 am -12:00 pm we are offering another opportunity to attend our training on rights statements implementation. This event is free and open to all who want to learn more about applying standardized rights statements to digital items in their collection.

We use the standardized rights statements developed by the international collaborative rightsstatements.org. These are a simple, standardized system of labels that more clearly communicate the copyright and re-use status of digital objects to the public. Adding these labels to your digital collections will improve usability and access for users, and the Minnesota Digital Library is pleased to help facilitate the more widespread adoption of these statements.

Additional Information

Presenters will review the rights statements and how they can be applied to digital collections using examples from the Minnesota Digital Library (MDL). Attendees will be introduced to the MDL Rights Review workflow document that illustrates an approach to determining which rights statements to associate with a digital object, as well as other tools for implementing the statements in their digital collection. Opportunities to work through general examples as a group are part of the training. Current MDL Contributors will receive a spreadsheet copy of their collection records that they can start working on immediately after the session.

There is an optional follow-up Q&A session on Friday, August 20th, from 10:00-11:30 am. Presenters will be available to assist you and answer questions that may have arisen as you are developing comfort and skill at at applying rights statements to your collection records.
