The Library of Congress and the American Folklife Center have opened up a new funding opportunity, Community Collections Grants. Community Collections Grants are available to individuals or non-profit organizations who want to collect materials that reflect the culture and perspective of their communities. Materials gathered through this process, which can include photographs, interviews, and audio or video recordings, will join the Library's permanent collection as well as enrich the archive of the local organization. The grant will be offered for three years, and the deadline to apply for this first year is September 7th.
The Minnesota Digital Library would be pleased to offer technical assistance for organizations interested in applying for a Community Collections Grant. We have digital scanning kits available through our Scan for Keeps program, and can provide guidance on metadata standards and practices.
