The U.S. Department of Education is withholding almost $7 billion in federal education funding for the upcoming school year, affecting various state-administered programs.  Do your administrators and district understand the impact these cuts will have on the school library program and the learners you serve?

The proposed FY25 cuts include:

  • $376 million - Title I-C Migrant Education State Grants
  • $890 million - Title III-A English Language Acquisition Grants
  • $1.33 billion - Title IV-B 21st Century Community Learning Centers
  • $1.38 billion - Title IV-A Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants
  • $2.19 billion - Title II-A Supporting Effective Instruction State Grants
  • $715 million - Adult Education State Grants

School libraries are instructional partners, resource providers, and equitable access points.  These cuts threaten a school librarian's ability to serve students effectively, particularly those most at risk.

A one-page infographic specific to Minnesota has been developed for your use and can be shared with administrators, school boards, parents, and educational partners, including classroom teachers and support staff.
