The 11th selection for Minnesota's statewide book club, One Book | One Minnesota, is "In the Night of Memory," by Linda LeGarde Grover. The book was the recipient of the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award and the Upper Peninsula Publishers & Authors Association U.P. Notable Book Award. The author is an enrolled member of the Bois Forte Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe and Professor Emeritus in the Department of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Grover's novel is set on the fictional Mozhay Point Reservation, and tells the story of two Ojibwe girls as they come of age and find family "in the long, sharply etched shadow of Native American history."
The reading period is slated to begin Monday, July 31 and end Sunday, September 24, and a virtual event with the author is scheduled on September 6. The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, One Book | One Minnesota's principal organizer, will share promotional materials for this latest selection one month in advance of the reading period. Please mark your calendar now and start planning to help your patrons take advantage of this exciting opportunity.
The current One Book | One Minnesota selection, "Follow the Blackbirds," by Gwen Nell Westerman, was chosen in honor of National Poetry Month. The book is available through May 28 via Ebooks Minnesota, and in print at libraries across the state.
