At Project MUSE, we are a global platform of multi-disciplinary humanities and social sciences scholarly content from non-profit publishers. We are leading the charge toward more open access with our Subscribe to Open (S2O) program.

S2O is an equitable open access model that enables scholarly subscription journals to open access to their current year’s content without Article Processing Charges (APCs). Beginning in 2025, with more than 100 journals from almost 30 publishers, all current-year articles from participating journals will publish open access if that year’s subscriptions to MUSE Journals Collections meet our revenue sustainability threshold.

In this 60-minute panel discussion, we will go beyond an introduction to Subscribe to Open to focus on equity of the model, practical applications, ease of participation, and clarify some common misconceptions.

Speakers from university presses, libraries, and consortia will come together for a unified discussion.

Confirmed Panelists

  • Rachel Borchardt, Scholarly Communications Librarian, American University (speaker)
  • William Breichner, Journals Publisher, Johns Hopkins University Press (speaker)
  • Carolyn Cunningham, Head of Collection Development, University of Texas Libraries (speaker)
  • Jocelyn Dawson, Director of Journals, University of Pennsylvania Press (speaker)
  • Tricia Miller-Chareun, Senior Manager, Sales & Library Relations, Project MUSE (moderator)
  • Roland Wagner, Head of Acquisition, Licenses and Metadata, Johann Christian Senckenberg University Library, Goethe University Frankfurt and Head of hebis-Konsortium (speaker)

Audience members will leave the webinar with a deeper understanding of how the Subscribe to Open model has evolved and the challenges and benefits for publishers, librarians, consortia, aggregators, and authors and readers.

Please register today and come with your questions as we will leave plenty of time for a lively Q&A!
