Body

from OCLC:

This message is a reminder to libraries registered for the WorldCat Local “quick start” program that the program is scheduled to end June 30, 2015.

WorldCat Local “quick start” has provided the display of real-time availability information in search results to FirstSearch subscribers whose collections are represented in the WorldCat database. Libraries registered for the “quick start” program have been contacted directly about the end of this program.

WorldCat Discovery Services, the service that replaces FirstSearch in December 2015, provides much of the functionality you may be currently using in WorldCat Local “quick start,” including:

  • Search of WorldCat and several additional databases
  •  Display of local holdings first in search results for libraries with up-to-date information about their collections in WorldCat.

In addition, WorldCat Discovery expands WorldCat Local “quick start” and FirstSearch to help you and your users more easily find and get resources in all your library’s collections and the collections of thousands of other libraries worldwide.

If your library uses WorldCat Local “quick start” or has enabled the display of availability information in WorldCat.org through the pilot project that preceded WorldCat Local “quick start,” the availability display will be removed from your site following June 30.

To provide ongoing access to real-time item availability information to your users after that date, you may:

  1. Purchase the WorldCat Discovery local item and real-time availability option. Request a quote for this option.
  2. Set up “deep links” from search results to your library’s local catalog to provide access to availability information. Read the instructions for setting up a deep link in OCLC Service Configuration.
