BioOne maximizes access to peer-reviewed content in organismal and integrative biology, ecology, and environmental science through a powerful collaboration of
authors, nonprofit publishers, and the library community.
What Makes BioOne Different?
As a nonprofit organization operating on a cost-recovery basis, BioOne provides a balanced, low-cost alternative to restrictive commercial publishers without sacrificing the quality research, global reach, and flexible technology that librarians and their patrons require.
BioOne was founded in 1999 as a not-for-profit cooperative designed to help scientific societies remain independent and in control of their own work. Founding members include SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), AIBS (American Institute of Biological Sciences), the University of Kansas, GWLA (the Greater Western Library Alliance), and Allen Press.
