This position is a Temporary & Casual Employee classified Interim Health Sciences librarian position for up to 14 hours (maximum) of work per week through the duration of employment. This position reports to the Associate Director for Education & Research Services in the Health Sciences Library. The Interim Health Sciences Librarian joins a team of 8 health sciences librarians who work to advance the teaching, learning, and research initiatives of the University of Minnesota health sciences programs. The Interim Health Sciences Librarian holds the primary responsibilities for teaching, consultations, and literature searches. This position will primarily work with faculty, staff, and students in the School of Public Health, and may be assigned literature search and instruction responsibilities in classes or via consultations by other health sciences programs as needed. This position is primarily remote, with some expectations to be on campus for in-person instruction activities as requested by faculty, and for monthly librarian departmental meetings.
Responsibilities
- Partner with faculty to develop and teach evidence-based practice, information literacies, and other skills in academic courses/curricula, adapting Libraries programs to the discipline-specific needs of health science students (45%)
- Provide customized expertise via consultations (via Zoom) to students in health sciences courses for additional learning of evidence-based practice and information literacy skills for completing assignments and/or contributing to research projects (45%)
- Provide literature search results to faculty and staff by request (10%)
Required Qualifications
- American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science OR equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience
- Demonstrated teaching skills, with an understanding of pedagogical best practices and instructional design principles for online and in-person instruction
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative, develop and carry out projects, and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to use and teach health sciences related databases and tools such as Ovid Medline, PubMed, Scopus, and Embase
- Understanding of the application of evidence-based practice as an information literacy framework
