The Metropolitan Library Service Agency (MELSA) is pleased to introduce its new Executive Director, Sherry Anderson Wichitchu.

Sherry brings more than twenty-five years of experience in leadership, project management, and strategic planning, most recently in her role as Library System Director for the Northern Waters Library Service in Ashland, Wisconsin.  In that role she managed services to 30 member libraries in eight Wisconsin counties – great preparation for working with the eight public library systems and their collective 100+ branches in MELSA. Before that she served as Library Director for the Edgerton Public Library in Edgerton, Wisconsin.

Sherry played a key role in formulating a new state funding formula for Wisconsin public library systems and served as Wisconsin Library Association President for two pandemic-affected years. She is also active in advocating for libraries at the federal level through the American Library Association, which named her an Emerging Leader in 2012.

Sherry holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Drama from the University of Wisconsin Madison.

Sherry looks forward to moving to the Twin Cities and taking on this new role: "I'm thrilled to join MELSA and contribute to the vibrant public library community in the Twin Cities metro area. The opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the region to help libraries connect with their communities and provide innovative resources is incredibly exciting."

Sherry officially starts at MELSA on October 7, 2024. Her e-mail address will be sherry@melsa.org.
