JOB SUMMARY
The Systems & Online Services Librarian is responsible for overseeing the selection, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all library technologies. This role ensures off-campus access, maintains the Libraries’ discovery tool, manages the website platforms, and runs technology usage reports. The Systems & Online Services Librarian also leads the Libraries Discovery and User Experience (DUX) Team meetings, priorities, and migration projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Investigates, implements, manages, and continuously improves library technologies:
- Integrated library system (ILS) (Alma)
- Discovery tool and online public access catalog (Primo)
- OpenURL resolver (LibKey and Alma Link Resolver)
- Off-campus authentication system (OpenAthens).
- Content management systems (WordPress and LibGuides)
- Communicates, troubleshoots, and resolves issues with library technology vendors. Communicates technology issues to library and university staff, students, and faculty via the appropriate channels.
- Leads the Libraries DUX Team and plans and delegates tasks for technology migration projects. Runs reports and compiles statistics for library technologies.
- Develops, standardizes, assesses, and continuously improves the library website and updates the library website content upon request.
- Documents technology management procedures.
- Stays current on procedures related to responsibilities and emerging library technology trends.
- Trains back-up staff on library technologies.
- Assists with electronic resource management.
- Backs up Library Services Coordinator when needed, which would include circulation and interlibrary loan responsibilities.
- Backs up Instruction Librarians when needed by delivering user-centered reference and instruction.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Required
- Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution or equivalent.
- Experience developing HTML5 and CSS-based websites.
Preferred
- Experience assisting users with library databases, reference, and circulation inquiries, particularly in online environments.
- Experience managing electronic resources, responsive websites, discovery tools, open URL resolvers, and usage reports, particularly experience with WordPress and Alma/Primo
- Experience working with SpringShare products, particularly LibGuides.
- Experience working in an academic library.
- Experience working with JavaScript.
- Fluency in Spanish.
