On March 4, 2024, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) announced they are seeking authorization from the federal Office of Management and Budget to eliminate the Academic Libraries (AL) survey from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) data collection starting in 2025-26. The IPEDS Academic Library survey is used to collect comprehensive data on academic libraries and facilitates decision-making, benchmarking, accreditations, and other important administrative activities.
