UND School of Law Thormodsgard Law Library seeks a proactive, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic librarian to join our team as the Head of Technical Services.

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Law Library’s mission of providing the collections and services necessary to the School of Law’s teaching, scholarship, research, and service activities.

The individual in this position manages, oversees, monitors, and maintains the bibliographic control procedures necessary to provide access to library databases and materials in all formats.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs cataloging and collection processing for all materials and all formats according to AALL best practices and current metadata standards
  • Serves as co-systems librarian for administering the Integrated Library System (ILS) software, the Online Public Access Catalogs (OPAC), OCLC, and LibGuides
  • Performs general serial record maintenance and control
  • Orders materials and processes invoices for most library materials
  • Performs Library-side financial and vendor management and coordinates with the School of Law’s Director of Finance to share necessary information for library-related budgeting and accounting
  • Collaborates with staff, publishers, and vendors to obtain missing material and resolve problems
  • Oversees and monitors stack maintenance, shelving activity, and library-specific software
  • Collects and maintains monthly and annual statistical data for the law library and provide reports regarding statistics as required by accrediting bodies.

Required Competencies

  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, the Internet, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills as well as a demonstrated ability for strong attention to detail and the ability to work with little supervision
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, problem-solving, and writing skills
  • An ability to generate, read, and understand spreadsheets and statistical reports
  • The ability to develop content for web pages or online learning tools, e.g. LibGuides

Minimum Requirements

  • ALA-accredited MLS, MLIS, or MSI.
  • 2 years' experience in a technical services position in a library.
  • Experience using cataloging, serials, online integrated library systems, and overseeing acquisitions and expenditures for library resources and materials.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a technical services position in a law library or academic library.
  • Experience with ALMA, including ALMA Acquisitions.
  • 3+ years' experience in a technical services position.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$56,000 annual, Full-time, benefitted, exempt position.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
